What is Juvederm?

How Juvederm works
The active ingredient in this gel is a sugar that occurs naturally and is known as Hyaluronic acid. The sugar is very important in the process through which property binds to water. It acts by attracting water and plumping up the skin therefore smoothing out any wrinkles that might be present. To simply describe what this acid does, as you age, you lose fatty tissue in your skin. UV light also leads to the loss of this fatty tissue, hyaluronic acid works by replacing this tissue and therefore making your skin look youthful once again. It is important to note that this acid is naturally present in our body. As we age, however, the amount decreases.
How is it done?
Like all other dermal fillers, Juvederm is normally administered through injections using a fine needle. When you are set for the treatment, the specialist will just prepare the dose and inject. There is usually no need for a pre-treatment or allergy testing. This is because the gel doesn’t normally contain any additives that could be allergenic. There are specialists that might give you a local anesthetic in order to numb the pain. Note that even without the anesthesia; the injection isn’t really painful or uncomfortable.
Who should get Juvederm?
As mentioned, Juvederm is a great way of smoothing out wrinkles especially on the face. This means that the age groups that will need this treatment are mainly people over the age of 40. This is because this is the time when the skin starts losing its elasticity and forming fine wrinkles. The treatment can also be administered to any other person having a problem with wrinkles.
